While investigating the damage caused by an underwater earthquake, Mark discovers a rift in an undersea cliff-face. Passing through, he finds himself transported back in time to Fourteenth Century Italy, where he becomes embroiled in the feud between the families of two young lovers called Romeo and Juliet.
